The cabinet is considering whether to declare Monday, Dec 30, as an official holiday this year to create a five-day New Year holiday and boost local tourism spending. A workshop chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra agreed in principle on Tuesday that a lengthy end-of-year holiday could help to drive overall tourism spending in 2013 to more than two trillion baht.
If approved by the cabinet, this decision should help the private sector to prepare campaigns to support domestic tourism.

The meeting declared that there were 19.6 million visitor arrivals to Thailand during the first nine months of 2013, up 23% from the same period last year. It is projected that visitor arrivals will total 26 million for the complete year. (2013)
