Liverpool Thailand Football Match 2013

Locals, expats and tourists alike turned out in their thousands to watch the highly anticipated Liverpool Thailand football match last night at Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium, however the home team were left disappointed as Liverpool beat them in an easy 3-0 win.
Goals were scored by 21 year old Brazilian midfielder, Philippe Coutinho, who also set up new addition Iago Aspas who scored the second. The third and final goal was scored by Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. The score line could have been higher with Thailand seeing an even larger defeat thanks to some very near misses by Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Luis Suarez, who is currently embroiled in a transfer saga with Arsenal.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was quoted after the match as saying “It was an excellent game and there were three great goals. Our level of intensity was just right. All credit to the Thai team, they played very well”.
Although beaten, to give the Thai team credit they certainly had a few shots at scoring with Teerasil Dangda being very unlucky with a shot that was just outside the right post. Sarawut Masook also had a good shot on target but Liverpool’s newly signed Belgian goalie Simon Mignolet pulled out an excellent save and managed to block it.
Despite it being the Thai national team on the pitch, little loyalty was shown for the home side with the crowd going insane with delight when Steven Gerrard scored.
The win meant that Liverpool kept a clean score sheet through the whole of their Asian tour having already beaten both Indonesia and Melbourne 2-0 each beforehand. Gerrard’s boys didn’t have time to hang about and take in the sites nor chill on one of Thailand’s beaches though as they head home to get ready for Gerrard’s testimonial against Greek side Olympiacos which takes place this coming Saturday. The Thai team’s next match is on August 7th against Barcelona. Let’s hope they fare a little better in that game.
