Suvarnabhumi Airport

Suvarnabhumi Airport also known as the New Bangkok International Airport is one of the two international airports serving Bangkok, the other one being the Don Mueang International Airport.
It is the hub for a majority of International & local airlines and currently the sixth busiest airport in Asia and busiest in Thailand. The local airlines flying from here are the Thai Airways International, the Bankok Airways and Orient Thai Airlines and it also serves as a connecting point for many foreign carriers. The Airport is situated in Racha Thewa in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan Province which is located at distance of about 25 kilometres east of downtown Bangkok. The name Suvarnabhumi was chosen by King Bhumiboj Adulyadej and means the Golden Kingdom. The area around Suvarnabhumi Airport is not very touristy, but is great for transit travellers as it is dotted with sights and attractions in the close vicinity. One could easily check a few places and still be in time to catch the flight. We will list some attractions below.

The Ancient City Samut Prakan

The Ancient City Samut Prakan: A visit into the ancient past of Thailand’s glorious civilization. It is a feast for all travellers as it promises to showcase the replica of almost all famous Thailand’s monuments & landmarks. The Ancient City’s sage like founder Lek ViriyaphantLek Viriyaphant has the following to say “If man has no knowledge of the past, he is nothing but a vessel without a rudder on the high seas”. The same person is also responsible for producing two other monumental works namely the Erawan Museum and The Sanctuary of Truth (in Pattaya). The Ancient City houses approximately nearly hundred of Thailand’s monuments and landmarks.

The Erawan Museum

The Erawan Museum: The Museum’s Grandeur is the three headed elephant’s statue located at its entrance. This majestic statue is made of green hued copper and has a height of about 29 metres. It is an epic image of Hindu Mythology’s Airawat (otherwise known as Erawan), that you will find hard to forget. The Museum housed inside is even difficult to comprehend with its three levels symbolising the thai cosmos, rare eastern antiques and a religious iconography. The brochure here rightly says, one man’s dream comes to life.

Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel: A true delight for all travellers. Known for its hospitality and offering 5 star comfort, inspite being a 4 star category. Brilliant and well suited for the transit travellers.

The Cottage Suvarnabhumi Hotel: A 3 star budget hotel but the friendliness of the staff makes it a five star. A great experience!

So next time you are on transit flight, make sure to visit these man made marvels.
